Is Obama A Christian?

You have to grant it to him, Obama is a most excellent orator. To put it in the words of a former pastor, now lecturer and faculty member of a seminary on the Copperbelt, "You can't just help but like the guy." It is very true, I heard a speech by him were he speaks to graduates at a University in Arizona, USA. I got really inspired. He was basically encouraging the "graduating class of 09" to seek to serve others in all their future endeavors, rather than themselves. He didn't quote a single verse in the bible and yet I walked away feeling like I had heard a moving sermon!

Anyway, great oration doesn't get you a spot in the Lambs book of life, so, is this man actually a Christian? My interest in discovering his state before God was inspired by a comment I got on an article I wrote about Obama, about 24 hours before his inauguration. It was a negative article. I wasn't necessarily shooting the man down, I was simply appealing to anyone who would read, especially Christians, not to envy Obama because of his achievement because firstly, what good is it for a man to gain the whole world but in the end, to lose his soul. Secondly, I sought to encourage believers to admire men who achieve much for God's kingdom rather than those who achieve much in this mortal world. That makes those men who have given their lives to serving God, the ones who must be admired and envied above all others because it is that kind of achievement that will count on the last day. You can read that article by clicking here, and you can read the comment that inspired this article below that article.

Now then, is Obama a Christian? In this article I present to you nothing but actual quotes from Obama himself and leave it to you to decide. Each quotation has a link to its source indicated against the quote by a number in brackets. At the bottom you will find against the number the name of the source, simply click on the numbers to view the desired source. The quotes are taken from either videos of Obama or transcripts of interviews.

THE EVIDENCE FOR

Obama has publicly said that he is, infact, a Christian. He has been called a Muslim but says that while he respects Islam, he is not a Muslim (by the way, I do not respect Islam). Obama on being a Christian:

"I am a Christian, and I am a devout Christian. I believe in the redemptive death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I believe that that faith gives me a path to be cleansed of sin and have eternal life. But most importantly, I believe in the example that Jesus set by feeding the hungry and healing the sick and always prioritizing the least of these over the powerful. I didn't 'fall out in church' as they say, but there was a very strong awakening in me of the importance of these issues in my life. I didn't want to walk alone on this journey. Accepting Jesus Christ in my life has been a powerful guide for my conduct and my values and my ideals."(1)

Obama believes that America's greatest moral failure has been a failure to follow the fact that whatever is done for the least, is done for Jesus Christ as found in Matthew 25:40, he says:

"I think America’s greatest moral failure in my lifetime has been that we still don’t abide by that basic precept in Matthew that whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you do for me, and that notion of — that basic principle applies to poverty. It applies to racism and sexism. It applies to, you know, not having — not thinking about providing ladders of opportunity for people to get into the middle class. There’s a pervasive sense, I think, that this country, as wealthy and powerful as we are, still don’t spend enough time thinking about the least of us."(2)

Obama says he became a Christian in 1985 when...well, why don't I just use his own words, here is President Obama's testimony:

"...So one Sunday, I put on one of the few clean jackets I had, and went over to Trinity United Church of Christ on 95th Street on the South Side of Chicago. And I heard Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright deliver a sermon called "The Audacity of Hope." And during the course of that sermon, he introduced me to someone named Jesus Christ. I learned that my sins could be redeemed. I learned that those things I was too weak to accomplish myself, He would accomplish with me if I placed my trust in Him. And in time, I came to see faith as more than just a comfort to the weary or a hedge against death, but rather as an active, palpable agent in the world and in my own life. It was because of these newfound understandings that I was finally able to walk down the aisle of Trinity one day and affirm my Christian faith. It came about as a choice, and not an epiphany. I didn't fall out in church, as folks sometimes do. The questions I had didn't magically disappear. The skeptical bent of my mind didn't suddenly vanish. But kneeling beneath that cross on the South Side, I felt I heard God's spirit beckoning me. I submitted myself to His will, and dedicated myself to discovering His truth and carrying out His works..."(3)

Here are a few comments by people who've read this account. By the way, you can click on the link (number) above to read the full testimony.

"For Obama to stand up and talk about how Jesus changed his life, my friends that takes guts. You may disagree with everything he’s about, you may disagree with his policy goals but as Christians, shouldn’t we like it when someone talks about Christ being the missing ingredient in his life?"
-A Mr. David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network

"I found this statement breathtaking and refreshing in its straightforwardness."
-A Mr. D. Pulliam

THE EVIDENCE AGAINST

Obama is pretty sure that his mother, who died a non-believer, is in heaven. He says his late mother was the kindest, most descent and generous person he ever knew. While she was not "A believer like I am", he says, "I'm sure she is in heaven".(4)

Obama, in response to those who thought that America's public policy should be guided by the bible, said:

*"Which passages of scripture, should guide our public policy? Should we go with Leviticus which suggests that slavery is ok?... Or, we could go with Deuteronomy which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith? Or should we just stick to the sermon on the mount, a passage that is so radical, that its doubtful that our own defence department would survive its application? So before we get carried away, lets read our bibles now. [Some] folks havn't been reading their bible."(5)

Obama feels that the standard of the bible, and of God therefore, cannot be used to govern a nation because not everyone in America, for example, is a believer. It is on that premise that he is pro-choice (supports making abortion legal) rather than pro-life (those who want to make abortion illegal). Although, he does clarify his position saying that while he is pro-choice, he is not pro-abortion(6). Neither is he a supporter of homosexuality although he feels that homosexuals are born with their sexual orientation and that they too, like heterosexuals, have rights and should therefore be free to live normal lives(7).

Obama feels that while he is a believer, he should not superimpose his beliefs on non-believers(8). Also, he does not seem to believe in the inerrancy of scripture as he is quoted saying, that some evangelicals believe in the inerrancy of scripture, in a sorta negative tone and context(8).

Link (8) is a video, on youtube, with whose uploader's words I will end this article with, he writes:

"I usually don't upload other videos and post them (thanks YOISM.org), but
this video was too good to pass up. It reinforces why I love this candidate. Finally someone eloquent who really gets it!!! He admits some of the inanities in the bible and the illogic. He admits that faith is illogical and imperfect. He lays out why religion should stay out of government. He's for civil unions and not marriage, but... eh... criticizing that is like not driving the Lamborghini because it only gets 9 miles per gallon. It's my assertion that Obama is either a closet atheist only in religion for political reasons (Yeah hypocritical, the Lamborghini doesn't have any cup holders either) or he's one of the last and most sane Christian I could ever hope to meet. Enjoy. "

If Obama is a true believer, the words of this guy I've just quoted would cripple him. Its one thing for people to be unable to tell whether you are a believer or not but it is quite another for people to reject your faith because of what you, yourself, are saying about it.

Is Obama a Christian, you have the necessary information now-you decide. I rarely get any comments at all, but if you read this, do weigh the evidence for and the evidence against and based on them leave me a comment specifying whether or not you think Obama is saved.

Obama is NOT saved. He believes his non-believing mother is in heaven, and he just approved insurance for same-sex partners in the federal government.

He must have a "different" truth than what's in MY bible.

I will, however, pray for him and support him because he is our president.

Anybody that is for murdering innocent children and the elderly is not a christian. People in America need to wake up.

I have to wonder why it is so high a priority on his agenda to promote more and more abortion, while saying he wants less of it. I think he's being used by the Enemy to bring harm to babies and this country in general.

Obama testifies that he is Christian so I take him at his word and regard him as a brother in Christ. I don't agree with him on everything regarding his approach to religion and the Christian faith, but so what, I probably don't agree with anyone 100%. It doesn't really matter what I think about the state of his soul anyway. Only he and God know this, it is not up to me to judge.

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matt 7:15-23)

What Obama is is realist... he is avoiding doing exactly what Christians are accusing Islam of. WE Christians believe Islam fundametalists take laws too far and end up persecuting others because of their sins. Obama realises that you cant call yourself a Christian and hate homosexuals...as a leader its tougher, for you must cater for all...Christian or otherwise. Faith and politics do not mix. We cant get into heaven by banning abortion... Christians must concentrate on discouraging the choice of abortion...not on banning it. Even God is pro-choice! He wants you to give yourself to Him whole-heartedly by choice, not as a result of prayers that were forced upon you at school by the admin. To Ceasar what is Ceasar's (government and its Pharisee laws) and to God what is God's (your love soul and choice of good). Obama cant save souls by banning abortion nd homosexuality... get out there and preach Christians, and let Obama take care of all Americans regardless of their faith.

Isn't whether we're a Christian or not between us and Jesus? I know for many years I've done my best to let Jesus have his way with me? I've certainly asked him to be my Lord and Savior. Unfortunately I must confess, I've felt it necessary to change a number of times positions on who or what to support as I have grown in the Lord. Through all though I, Thank You Jesus, never wavered on Jesus being the Lord and asking for Him to show me how to love God and share that Love with others. Though I have fallen short many times over several decades, the Message appears, as lead, I need to take others to His Word, to Him.
As we share in His Spirit in His presence, it seems most issues vanish. For after all where two or three are gathered. . .

I'm not fooled by this man. No, I do not believe Obama is truly saved. He seems to stand for everything that is against God.I believe he is deceptive and he just likes to say what ppl want to hear. There's alot of christians out there that are believing this man and letting him deceive them because they really believe he is a good christian man. Sure as president, you are the leader of a very diverse nation, but as a real christian, you would not use excuses as to why you're allowing innocent children to be murdered or saying it's not your right to impose on anyone's personal lifestyles. As a christian, you must stand on the Word and what God says. Excuses won't make it on judgement day. As someone quoted earlier about false prophets..all we can do is look at what the Bible says and I do not think that Mr. Obama's actions or words line up with the Word of God. There's always been something within my spirit that throws up a red flag about Obama since he's been in the picture with the election and now as our president.

Everything in this post supports his claim that he is a Christian. The only thing that is iffy is his belief about his mom, and who can blame him?? God is the judge, not obama and not any of you. i think it demonstrates great faith to believe the best about people you love.

He mocks the Bible. Here is the link to see him mocking the Bible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6U1e5JLddXo He is pro-abortion. Actions speak louder than words and his actions tell me he hasn't accepted Jesus as his savior.

We, as a nation, should pray for our president. His government is taking us in the wrong direction. According to the Bible, he is not godly. He is pro-choice, he is pro-homosexualist, and pro-evolutionist. These views are against the Bible teachings.

Phil said...

Why is it that Christians seem so obsessed with finding sin in another human. So quick to judge another Brother or Sister in Christ. They seek to find any flaw, when they themselves can't see past the plank in their own eye.
How do any of you know our president is not saved. He has already said so, and is that not between he and God? And if you read your Bible it is not your calling to question that.

I am ashamed as a Christian at the childish rantings and gossip I read here.

The Bible tells us that “a perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends” (Proverbs 16:28).

Gossipers have the goal of building themselves up by making others look bad and exalting themselves as some kind of repositories of knowledge.

Before you judge another man, Remember God already knows what's in your own closet.

Anonymous said...

Phil, the bible also says we have a right to discernment.

You ask how do I know someone is not saved? I judge them by their fruits. Does the bible not say this?

Now I agree against the Mother being in hell. We have no idea what Gods final judgments are. We do know hell is real. But we do not know what can transpire in the hearts of many about to make that transition.

But based on Obama's faith creeds, I have discerned he is not Christian. One can label themselves anything as most do look at faith as merley what you were brought up in.

As a Christian we know there are not many ways to God. We believe that there is but one way.

And sometimes we can see clearly to pull a flank out of our brothers or sisters eye.

It is not hard for many to deceive others. Look at some evangelists. They don't believe and are in it for making money. Yet they know the bible better than most. Do I not have the right to be Christ like and challenge the Authority of another person Claiming to be Christian?

The bible tells us to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves.

Deception goes all the way back to the Garden of eden. Yet I ask, "can you defend the serpent"?

Clearly this serpent was not on your side or mine because he was against Gods plan for man.

I think if you do the research you will see that Obama uses Christianity as a Political act and does not necessarily believe in the Christ as he would lead you to believe.

And yes I have taken many hours of my time to research this matter. Have you done the same?

rhonda said...

I see no reason why someone can't be a Christian and be Pro-Choice. Pro Choice is not Pro-Abortion, it simply is for a woman's right to do what she wants with her body. And I am with Obama on wanting to believe in a merciful God that would accept a non-believer into Heaven as well as a believer, I thought God was supposed to love and accept all of His children even those who had forsaken Him...isn't that what true Christianity is about? I thought tolerance and forgiveness was what it was all about. People who are judgmental and hateful and preach about "you have to do things this way or that way or you are being condemmed to the firey pits of hell" that is what makes good people sway from religion altogether. Regardless of whether Obama is muslim or Christian or worships flying saucers he is our President and he deserves our respect. We are supposed to be a united country and we need to act like it. So if you are truly a Christian then get your act together and act like one and quit judging other people because if you were really a Christian then you would know that it is NOT YOUR PLACE TO JUDGE ANYONE. Leave the judging to God.

I am an independent who believes God could exist but I am not really sure. For that matter believing something that exist doesn't make it so. Even so, I try to live my life as a Christian, I can think of no better role model than Jesus. These so proclaimed Christians who's wallets and purses squeek of stingyness when they are asked to be opened shame themselves. I am not for handing out free money to those who are able to earn for themselves but choose not too. But when it comes to educating and providing affordable health care for your people why do the people who say we are a Christian nation the last to be willing to open there wallets. You can call yourself a Christian but unless you try to live your life like Jesus Christ you fall way short. These people like the Waltons of Wallmart who combined are worth over 100 Billion Dollars. While there employees make minimal wages living the American dream and we taxpayers make up the difference through our welfare and free services at city hospitals. As far as I can see weather Obama is a Christian or not he is atleast trying to take care of serious problems that can't be remidied by the Church. Call him a socialist or communist but his actions are Christian. As far as abortion let God Judge pass judgment not us .

After reading the article, I am more convinced than ever that President Obama is a Christian.
Today is Sunday November 1st 2009. As you drove to church this morning, you drove past at least two other churches.
Why did you not go to the very first church you drove by? Is it not closer to your home?
Fact is many Christians drive by two or three churches before reaching the church of their choice. We must assume then that the reason they did not stop at the nearest church on that Sunday morning is that they do not believe in the teachings of that church. Plainly speaking, you believe that the churches that you passed by are false churches, and teach error. (Except for the churches where the language differs from the driver’s language).
You did not go to that church because you believe they teach a false doctrine. On the other hand, many people passed by your church and went to some of the churches you drove past. They also passed by your church thinking, “ I am not gong to that church, they teach a false doctrine.” So there we are every Sunday morning excommunicating each other.
In Christianity, there can only be one correct doctrine, yet in Christendom, the doctrines are varied, and yet we accept anyone who has faith in Jesus, and believes that Jesus came to earth and died in their place, to redeem them of their sin, as Christian.
President Obama expresses the same faith and belief in Christ as the rest of the people in Christendom. Why then do we question his Christianity?
Is it because we are calling for a theocracy in America?
He is the president of the United States, and are we asking him to be the pastor also of these United States?
Lets assume for a moment that any President assumes the role of president as “ Pastor of these United States.” Which then of the 2000 different religion doctrines does he enact as legally binding on the United Stated?
Can he accept all the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church as binding on all Americans and make the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church the Law of the Land? How about the doctrines of the Baptist church? Oh, and which Baptist church, since doctrine varies in the Baptist community of faith from congregation to congregation. Will Americans accept the entire doctrines of the Jehovah Witness Church as the Law of the Land? Will we accept the doctrines of the Morman faith as the law of the land? On the other hand, are we going to mix and match the varied doctrine in Christendom and come up with a compromised form of theocracy as Constantine did in 321 A.D?

By all Christendom standards, President Obama is a Christian. He was voted in as Pastor in chief, but as Commander in Chief. There is nothing in his life that says he is not part of Christendom. In addition, he has confessed with his mouth, and with his actions that he is a Christian. Your article also supports the fact that he is a Christian.

If we must have a Christian president, Obama is certainly the kind of Christian we want - one who keeps his primary focus on doing good works in society and welcomes the continuance of Christian organizations that are involved in doing good works.

In the end, separation of church and state are required under the Constitution. It is an essential element of that requirement, that the leaders of the country do not depend on personal revelation from God to influence the operation of the government.

And Obama is right, morality does not root from the teachings of the Bible. If it did, we'd still think it was okay to have slaves and in countless other ways, we'd be stuck in the Bronze Age moral code. We can't pick and choose which of the morals from the Bible we like, and which ones we don't like, without undermining the credibility of the Bible as a source for morality in the first place.

I don't have much faith in the press these days, but I haven't heard anything about Obama and his family being involved in Christian worship services. (Yeah, I know about the administration spin of "private" services at Camp David; even if true, how often is he at Camp David?) He bows to the King of Saudi Arabia, but not the Pope.

He didn't run as a Muslim or a Socialist; he ran as a Christian.

In so many areas, you have to contrast his words to his actions before you begin to see the truth. He's clearly one of those who believes the end justifies the means, and is perfectly willing to include half-truths and deceitful spin in his speeches. I can accept a Muslim, or even a Socialist, as President, if they're honest about it, and elected by the majority. But there's something about this politically self-serving, deceitful, hypocrite that really galls me.

Bottom line here, though, ...... If he is a Christian, it doesn't appear to be much of a priority.

Actions speak louder than words ......

Mr Obama, if God were to instruct you on a specific policy decision just like how Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son, would you obey God even though it would affect your popularity ratings? If you truly see God as your saviour, you should allow him to rule in every aspect of your life including public policy, do not become a Christian of convenience. Abraham's was an example of how we should put our complete trust in God, don't think you are smarter than God.

Obama is he a christian? The only one who knows this is im and Jesus. We all love to point out each others faults and it is very easy to do for we all have them. When we look at what someone else does we magnify their sin and ignore our own. The Lord gave me a powerful statement when I was being very judgemental. "Don't put standards on somebody else you can't meet yourself and don't forget where you came from." Each one of us needs to take a look at this daily. Pray for our president.

How deceived so many are - especially professes Christians. The enemy is alive and well. I can sit in my garage all day. It doesn't make me a car. A believe in Jesus is someone who obeys Jesus. Obama obviously does not. you cannot separate your faith from your actions - especially in politics. If you do, your faith is no faith at all. You use it at your convenience. You can't be a Christian and be pro-abortion. You can't be a Christian, and be pro-same,sex marriage. Christians don't hate homosexuals. We hate the sin - same as Jesus doesn't hate the sinner. He hates the sin.
Pray for the salvation of our president and of those of influence around him. Also, know your bible. The Word of God say's that "my people perish from lack of knowlege." The only way to know if something is false is to know the truth....

I absolutely think that Obama is a Christian!

Judge not, lest ye be judged! How can anyone say who goes to heaven and who goes to hell? Of course he will think his mother is going to heaven. Why can't those who have not been exposed to Christianity go to heaven to? And how can we know anyways, we aren't the judges!

Eternal life- heaven- is here and now. It's about how we choose to live with the LOVE that Jesus taught, not about manipulating his words and judging others so we can find some future heaven!

I am praying that we all learn compassion and that Obama continues to do the best he knows how to make peace for this world.

I do not believe Obama is a Christian. I believe he is Muslim.
All this talk of redistribution of wealth is nuts. I don't think he has the best interests of the United States of America in his heart. Why does he goe around the world apologizing for the USA, and saying we are Muslims at heart. Baloney.

Jimmy Peddicord said...

How can anyone of you say definitively whether or not Obama is a Christian or not, especially based on what he believes about the status of his mothers soul. You all who say that since he believes that his mother is in heaven therefore he is not a Christian, need to look at your own beliefs and make sure that they also do not contradict the Bible if that is all that is necessary to be deemed an unbeliever. It is correct that in the New Testament it is stated very clearly that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life and no one will go to heaven expect through him in the gospel of John, and where does it say in this verse that if your beliefs are not on par with all the teachings of the Bible you will be excluded from the grace of the cross?

Anonymous said...

Yes I think he's a Christian and he's in a position which is bound to draw opposition at times. He needs prayer for wisdom as president and he needs prayer for angelic protection.
Also, people are mis interpreting scriptures, saying "judge not". We can't judge outsiders but can judge ourselves and gently draw other believer's faults to their attention to restore them spiritually if they're going astray. This is biblical so stop saying "judge not" to every criticism you hear.

Jimmy Peddicord said...

"Anonymous January 12" I appreciate your comment, I do however wish that you would all would put a name to your posts. I agree with you that verses like "judge not lest you be judged" and "let he who is without blame cast the first stone" are over used and often done so out of context. It is important to remember, however, that it is not really within man's ability to discern whether or not a person's soul is saved. We can gain an idea to the depth of their personal relationship with the Lord. I can judge the quality of a man's soul by the fruit it produces, not unlike the health of a plant, but I cannot determine where his or her soul will end up.

It is a relief to read your comment, because your love for your neighbor is obvious. You are correct that Obama does need prayer for wisdom and protection, but it should be remembered that all of us could use such prayers. I am not sure of your feelings towards Obama as a politician, but I would like you to visit my blog timeforreformation.blogspot.com and read some of my works on there. I would truly value your feedback, even if negative, because I know that it would be sincere and from the heart. It won't hurt my feelings if you can't though.

The Lord let Obama be president, does that mean that our individual faith relies on Obama's words? Causing disagreements among christians... we ought to pray for our country, for the leaders of our country, relying on faith that He is in control of everything and that He's merciful towards the unsaved.

I prayed for my mother, I have asked her to believe, to shout for His name when feeling attacked. She passed away suddenly. I don't know whether she's saved, I hope she is. Everyone active in saving family members hope that our loved ones are in heaven. Who knows Obama's circumstances? You, me? Let God be the judge and let us busy ourselves with prayers for our leaders in America or in the world.

So is God a big man up in the sky somewhere? Do snakes really talk like the book of Genesis tells us? Could it be that modern day Christianity and Islam were given to us by those in power long ago (The Romans and Muslims) to control the masses and push forward their agendas of power and control. Both Christianity and Islam threw us into the dark ages due to persecution and hatred. Wake up people...religion is the biggest fairy tale....the biggest lie ever told to humanity. Religion causes separation...(my God is better than your God etc..) Religion causes hatred and war....religion is meant to be used metaphorically as the words in both the bible and koran have allegorical and not historical meanings. To take the bible or koran literally is missing the whole point of religions true meaning....which is to become a better person by choosing love over hatred...Read the story of the emperor constantine to see how modern day christianity was given to us by the roman catholic church...it is a twisted tale of lies and deceit..and yet we base our current belief systems on all of that nonsense....wake up people no one really knows the answer to these great mysteries....and those who say they do are the most dangerous. Obama is a good man...whether he is christian or not is pointless....

Christian G. said...

Not to get way off topic, but the above-commenter brings to my mind an interesting question:

You are, apparently, convinced that all religion is false, dangerous, destructive, and has caused the greatest harm to mankind. And yet, you finish your argument by judging that, ultimately, "...Obama is a good man."

What does "good" mean to you? If you believe that God and religion are a fairy tale, then what is your basis for good vs. evil? If we are accidents of random chance and life has no greater meaning other than what you or I arbitrarily declare for ourselves, what the heck does "good" mean, and why even waste our breath pretending it's important?

In a world that does not acknowledge the existence of God, there is no clarity of good and evil; there is only drab, colorless existence.

I have a question... why does it matter? Why is it such a big deal whether or not the president prays to a sky wizard that has no evidence of his existence?

Mwindula Mbewe said...

I could ask you the same question. Why did you bother to make your way to this article, read (or browse through it at the least) and even comment? I'll tell you why, because it matters. The "Sky Wizard" need not prove his existence to you or anybody else, you're too finite for him to bother but because of his love, he does.

These comments concerning Obama's actions remind me of the "Questioning" by the Catholic Church! Bush stood up and declared that he too was a Christian and ended up approving a war on unverified/false information and ultimately was responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent people. Is this the actions of a Christian? Guess what? It is not for any of YOU to declare someone else's salvation! When you go that 5 miles an hour over the speed limit or when you fudge those numbers slightly on your taxes or when you have a lustful thought about someone other than your spouse or when you gossip about your neighbor or when you boast about your promotion at work or when you take pride in the new flashy car you just bought or when you ignored the needs of someone less fortunate than you or when you judge those that you have no right to judge, ARE YOU ACTING LIKE A CHRISTIAN? The answer is yes! Christians sin and they do it daily. I only hope that your salvation is not being judged by others the way that you judge others.

As Jesus hung from the Cross, dying for our sins, there was a thief who repented and Jesus accepted him into His kingdom. I don't recall Jesus asking, "What do you think about homosexuality?" Or, "do you agree with me on these five points?" Or, "Do you concur with the entire teachings of the Torah?" I don't seem to recall that being asked. My Brothers/Sisters, God is Good and Gracious. I think He can find room for a man who happens to think his momma is going to heaven.

If I never heard the man speak, and just looked at his voting record, I could tell in a heartbeat whether he is Christian or not.

He is an impressive speaker, and uses that gift to appeal to the greatest number of people. I'm not sure he has *any* convictions, other than he likes being elected to office.

Well, Jesus is God, so he wouldn't have to ask him anything :)

He knows what is in our hearts and minds, and judges not on outward appearances or public proclamations of faith.

That being said, I agree that God is good and gracious. Only God knows for sure where Obama's heart and mind is.

The rest of us have no choice but to discern for ourselves.

I would have to say he is claiming he is christian for his own political gains. I was almost conviced he was until the abortion issue came into light. He seems to perfectly straddle the fence on issues that are religious/political, so he makes each side somewhat happy, however Obama seems to agree to whichever side gets him the most political gain.

The Bible says that by their fruits you will know them. What fruits of the Spirit does Obama possess? Also, when one is a true believer, they crave the fellowship of believers, i.e. attend church regularly and other Christian gatherings as well as want to read God's Word and pray. Obama hasn't attended church since he's been office, or if he has it's been once or twice for show. Being President doesn't excuse that. He's been caught in lies, he's not forth coming. If, and it's a big IF, he is a Christian, he is certainly ignorant of the Bible and it's principals. At the judgement seat of Christ, there will be those who will say they cast out demons in "your" name and healed the sick, etc., but Jesus will say He never knew them and cast them into the Lake of Fire. Unless you have a real heart change and repent, asking Jesus to come into your heart and take over your life, you are not a Christian according to the Bible. If you have a heart change, then you don't hide your beliefs "under a bushel." Obama once said this isn't a Christian nation, but a Muslim nation. He denies what Islam really teaches and because of that, American will continue to suffer and one day find themselves at the mercy of the Muslims. Ever wonder why America or our part of the world is not mentioned in the Book of Revelation and the teachings of the "end times?" I believe it's because we will be totally insignificant and no longer either a spiritual power, nor a physical power. When Obama doesn't side with Israel and protect them - the "apple of God's eye," the U.S. is in big trouble! I'm not judging Obama, the Bible already does. We need to pray for him and ask God to give him wisdom, which is what God's word tells us to do, but that doesn't mean everything he says or does is right. God gave Christians the Spirit of discernment and we need to use it. We should obey our government's laws unless they conflict with the laws of God, even though we are trodden down by their decisions. As true believers, if we live by Biblical principals, God will take care of us no matter where we find ourselves, or who is persecuting us.

Are Pres. Obama, Gov. Palin, Pres. Bush, and I "Born-again-evangelical-Christians"?

We have all stated so publicly.

Yet, we all disagree on exactly what that means; Obama believes his Mom is in heaven. Palin as an AOG believes you can lose your salvation. Bush is an UMC Wesleyan-Arminian.

I disagree with their positions on these important doctrinal issues. Yet, we all claim to be true Christ Followers.

If you do not believe Pres. Obama is a Christian then you should probably also not believe Palin or Bush either.

Or me.

I personally think that it is very judgmental for anyone to say that Obama is not a Christian. I also think it brings to light the reason that so many people don't like Christians... the fact that we worry too much about what others are doing and not about our own spiritual condition. Obama has obviously professed his faith publicly. Personally, I don't think that Satan would let one of 'his workers' profess his faith for Christ under any circumstances. Now, do I agree with everything that he says? No. But I do love him as a brother in Christ and I support him in everything because the Bible says that if you support your government, you are supporting God, because God is the one to puts them in the positions that they are in.

The Bible says that who are you to judge someone's servant? Each servant is accountable to his own master. Personally i don't know whether Obama is a Christian or not. To clear all suspicions, let us all wait for the Day of the Lord and we shall know.

Honestly. Obama has consistently (three separate times) voted against the "born alive infant" act. That means that if a baby survives abortion -- he/she must be left to die. If you find a puppy in a dumpster that someone has "dumped" -- do you save it? Of course. We don't know Obama's soul, but judging by his actions -- really -- is there any question? Leaving a baby to die in a dark room? Wake up! Think about it!! Think about it! If one can be a Christian and VOTE for this -- advocate this -- well, it's Alice Through The Looking Glass.

calitatum said...

I think he is a Christian but has a horrible hermeneutic. He has little or no understanding of Holy Scriptures, but he says Jesus is his Lord and Savior. Just because you have horrible theology does not dictate you are not a Christian. Even the fact that he believes in killing unborn babies does not negate him from being a Christian. It makes him a crappy Christian.

well i will have to let God be the judge wheather he is or is not a christian but if he is he better read the Bible because is coments and his actions to not relate to Gods word at all the Bible is very clear that abortion and homosexual is wrong i do not believe any one that says their a christian and thinks its ok to murder new born babys at a rate of more than 3600 a day Obama and every one else that could have done something to stop abortions and did'nt will have to answer to God for every baby they let die and did nothing i would not want that blood on my hands come judgement day and he is wrong you can govern a nation useing Gods word if they realy used Gods word and if he realy was a christian and know Gods word he would know that you are not born a homosexual.

Ephesians 2:8,9 says:
8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast.
You aren't a Christian because you said a prayer and asked Jesus into your life. Jesus is in your life whether you asked for him to be there or not. It is by grace through faith. I do doubt that Obama is truly Christian. He might be acting like it for political reasons, but personally, I think that he doesn't have a religion to save his life. His actions prove it. His supporting of abortion for one. While I believe that everybody has free will and should not have the choice taken from them because it takes free will, a Christian would not support it. I do not. I wouldn't abort my baby if my life depended on it. And if he would study a bit more on Christianity, he would know that only believers can get into the kingdom of heaven.
I do agree with him on the homosexuality though. While I do believe it is a sin, it is not, in most cases, a personal choice to be gay. Most people wouldn't want to live like that, with ridicule and such. It is like any other thing. Paul had a thorn that nobody knows what it really was. How do we know it wasn't a sin that he couldn't get away from? And what about children disrespecting their parents? Thats not something that just stops. My mom, even now at age 47 still disrespects her 73 year old mom, my grandma. If somebody is gay, they have the choice to act on it or not. Obama has the choice to act like a true Christian or not. Free will. Its a God given gift. Its a God given curse. How will we use it?

"For it is BY GRACE that you are SAVED through faith; and NOT OF YOURSELVES: it is the GIFT OF GOD." (Ephesians 2:8) Emphasis mine.

Grace is God's UNMERITED FAVOR. No one, I repeat 'no one' deserves it, nor can anyone EARN it by any good deeds of righteousness, which are as "filthy rags." (Isaiah 64:6) It is a FREE GIFT. Now who wouldn't serve a God like that? Jesus is truly awesome, and I thank Him for His FINISHED work on Calvary for all mankind. We can only boast of Jesus' righteousness, because only He paid the price for it.

He sounds like a Christian to me. There are pro-choice Christian groups, and while I disagree with them, I see where they're coming from: http://www.prochoiceactionnetwork-canada.org/articles/bible.shtml

As far as homosexuality, a Nation's Leader must prioritize things. Homosexuality is not as dangerous as
1.) War
2.)Dying in childbirth or in youth because you don't have healthcare
3.) Dying from asthma or related illnesses that are due to air pollution
4.) Having a aimless life because you had a bad eduction, causing you to commit crimes

Homosexuality is not a big issue, and I'm sure Pres. Obama just wants to get that issue over with as soon as possible so as to get back to REAL issues.

Who am I to judge?!
I think that is also why Obama says he thinks his gran is in heaven. How do we know?
I remember my gran dying, same thing, she was not a Christian how I was one. But she sure prayed. And seeing her body lie there, so peaceful, God just gave me confirmation that I would meet her again and that she was with him. I know.

About Obama.
How can I say someone is a Christian judging by his political agena!? To me, how could Bush possibly be one then? Lying to his people, betraying, abusing the name of God, filling this world with hatred and so forth and so on.

I know this is how it was perceived from a European perspective, but trust me, we are devout. We died in wars and we died in oppression. We may have a different approach because of that.

I cannot raise a kindom of God on this eath, I cannot pay justice and be the long arm of God.

I can only love, and show mercy.

Obama visited the graveyards of the fallen soldiers, spoke to those who lost their cammerades on the battlefield.

He supports the thing God allows us to have: the ability to choose.

Who says he does not support life?!

He simply also wants the women to have a chance of medical treatment, he doesn't want them bleeding to death after an illegal operation went wrong.
He much rather wants to give them reasons to keep the baby.
He wants them to have good health care, and support for their baby.
How is this not in the image of Christ?!

No really, it very much reminds me of the battle Jesus versus the Pharasees.

They so looked at the "law" that they killed the one who actually came to give em freedom and fulfill the law.

Now of course Obama is not a redeemer spiritually speaking, but most definately in terms of bigotry. For the first time in a long long long time is there someone truly clever, truly wise, truly with mistakes but humble enough to admit them.

One who fulfills a LOT of the promises he gave before being elected.
One who wrote about Christ way before!! he ever meant to become a Christian. One who worked! with the poor in Chigaco way before! he was in politics.

So rather than judging him, you should maybe pray, and say to God:

Make me see the truth, whatever it is, and make me less blind, biased and less focusing on self interest.

Is Obama doing something for us people?

Very much so.

YOu just don't like it, for it costs you a prize, the prize to no more follow blindly but decide on your own.

There is many many values that can make one believe Obama knows Christ, most of all:

He's got the guts to not follow blindly. He gets his Strength from the Lord above. That is my perception. How else could one walk so alone, consistent in what he believes? So hated by those he wants to help and bring forth change?! He even reads and listens to his critics!

He is very very brave.
I doubt you get such boldness but from the Lord above!

People are against abortion, but is fornicating and continuously having children out of wedlock ok. Abortion has been paid for by the government for over a decade people, and will not stop. If they are not legal they will be done illegally. Glutany is a sin also, but we do not condemn obese people. Understand the government has never been done by truly christian people. America was. Discovered based on the sin of slavery. Pray for yourselves and love ones, speak to thode who have had abortions and see how desperate they are. People pray for your own souls, and your love ones.

Obama is a muslim. During the campaign, he stated he would campaign in all 57 states. "There 57 islamic states". In an interview regarding his faith the reporter had to correct him when he said my muslim faith.

He ran as a committed Christian. How many times has he attended church since taking office? He prefers the gym or golf course.

To be a true Christian, you must believe the scripture as given. It is not for personal interpretation. To deny any part is to deny all.

I always love it when people start saying you have to separate your faith from your politics. A person who does that is a htpocrite. They believe what is beneficial to their cause.

Jsut like we will soon learn he is not a US citizen, the truth of his faith will be known as well.

He will go down in history as an usurper.

Look back to the comment that was posted on August 28, 2009 9:22 AM

If Obama is a Christian as he claims, then why is he having Muslims (along with his Secert Service bodygaurds) pray with him in the WhiteHouse?

His claim most recently that he is "Now a Born-Again Christian", is all for show. Remember that he has claimed all along that he is a Christian. If he was already a Christian, then he wouldn't have to "be born again" because you don't need to do it twice. You only need to be Saved once.

The Bible says to beware of false prophets. It says that we can see if one is a Christian by their fruits. Does Obama have this Christian Fruit? Everyone here who thinks Obama is a Christian is saying to "not judge" and that it is "up to God" but the Bible clearly says to beware of false prophets and that in the last days, people will deceive you. I am a Christain, and I have my sins. I'm human, like Obama is. Yet I stand for the Bible, despite of what others say. I try to do right. I share God's word with others. But again I say I'm not perfect. I'm a teenager. Sometimes I swear, or disobey my parents. Sometimes I look at a girl wrongly, but that doesn't make me unsaved. But at my school, people reconise me as a Christian before I ever meat them. It's because (not to brag) of my fruits. I try to share God's word with others and stand for what is right. People notice things like that. They always go further then words.
Obama can't be a Christian anyway. One must believe that Jesus is the way the truth and the life. Not a way, not a truth, not a life. If you don't believe this, then your not saved!!! So, instead of blindly accepting that Obama is a Christian just because it makes us feel good that someone is being a godly leader for us, why not make a stand for God yourself?
And yes, I do pray for Obama. I want him to get genuinely saved.

I think in reality, it is hard to save. I know that it takes just a little bit of faith in order to enter the kingdom of God, but it has to be real faith. I am blown away that he mentioned why he is saved but so confused because in the same sentence he says that it is his path and there are several paths to the same place. His inability to see Scripture as perfect troubles me. If Scripture is not an authority in his life, then it is hard to see how God Himself would be.

It is not a leader's job to cater to everyone. It is a leader's job to stand up for what he believes in and pursue the goals which he believes would best help our nation. It is the job of the citizens and of congress to control who is office and the power that they have. Obama just tries to please everyone and in turn results in breaking his promises with everyone. That is why his rating is 24% right now. In trying to please everyone nothing is getting done. 40% of the nation strongly disapprove of what he is doing.
Is he a christian? that is between him and God. I personally believe is anything that will suit him best at that time.

truth is the fire that burns away the lies said...

Obama is about as Christian as the Devil is. Obama uses Christianity as a cloak to cover up his evil path; and agenda he pushes. Do you think Jesus would condone murder aka abortion, homosexuality, the false path of Islam. Obama can vainly say he's Christian all he wants, his actions prove otherwise.
He is wickedly deceptive and causing confusion.

WAKE UP...what does light have to do with darkness?.

Obama seeks to be peoples hope. Thus misleading others. How could a Christian say "a light will beam through your window, and suddenly you'll have ephiphany to vote for obama"

Such a statement is one of many obama has said that mocks Jesus the LIGHT of the world, light leads people to Jesus, not to vote for someone as devious as obama.

Proverbs 26:23-26
Smooth words may hide a wicked heart,
just as a pretty glaze covers a clay pot. People may cover their hatred with pleasant words,
but they’re deceiving you. They pretend to be kind, but don’t believe them.Their hearts are full of many evils. While their hatred may be concealed by trickery, their wrongdoing will be exposed in public.

Jeremiah 17:10
"I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve"

Only God knows our hearts. I don't think it's right to judge a person of their faith. Only He knows. For now, even though I personally don't agree with Obamas views, we are called to support our leaders.

Romans 13:1
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God
and
1 Timothy 2:1-2

Romans 3 talks about how all have fallen short and no one is perfect. Everyone is sinful and makes mistakes.

Being a christian is not based on works. It means I believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and rose again. I choose to follow him and except his grace as I humble my self, asking for forgiveness and realizing my failure. It seems to me that Obama has claimed to do this. But again, whats his heart condition?

That's becoming a christian in a nut shell.
Of course people fall away from the Lord and his truth. We are called to live in his ways. But only God knows the condition of our hearts.

Prayer plays an important factor in this way. Since we don't know the condition of anyones heart we are called to pray for everyone, including our president who has been placed in a very important position for a reason obviously.

Obama is definitely more christian than the devil. Who cares if he believes his mother is in heaven, ITS HIS MOM, ITS COMFORT FOR HIM. He has freedoms to protect of americans, not just christians. I am a christian (believe me or not), People should have a choice to abortion. Unless when i woke up today the bible is missing the "DO NOT JUDGE OTHERS" Religion/Goverment can rarely blend.... Obama is most definitely christian. As for being saved, WHO CARES? You cannot tell if someone is saved by a few comments. That's not for us to know. Seven Reasons Barack Obama is not a Christian

By no measure can you call this man a Christian. He has nothing but a cursorily understanding of scripture. He has no relationship with the lord because the scriptures clearly state that if any one does they will do the will of the father and have fruit to show for it. He is at odds with so many of the critical fundamentals of the faith; Jesus is the only way, life is sacred, abortion is the killing of a child, homosexuality is and abomination in Gods eyes: you do not have to make homosexuality illegal but you do not celebrate it by institutionalizing it" Jesus did die on a cross for sinners you can be a homosexual and still know that it is wrong. He shows no solidarity with other Christians: refusing to even call them Christians when they are being beheaded by yes Muslim terrorist,
When he uses the holy scriptures so flippantly by asking if we should use the book of Leviticus to govern the country he shows his ignorance of the scripters because Jesus said he came to fulfill the law not to follow the scribes and Pharisees, it is demonstrated when the women that was caught in the act of adultery; he persuaded the mob to break the law and not stone her and he did not stone her so he did not follow the law there so right there should tell you if we should use the book of Leviticus to govern the country or if we should stone our sons for falling away from the faith. if you read the scriptures you know that Jesus clearly established his distain for the old testament law he associated with sinners, tax collectors, and outcasts this was forbidden by the Jewish law you were considered defiled if you did any of these things when they asked about divorce he clearly stated that the law was wrong and was only allowed by Mosses because of the evilness of their heart no one had such red hot scorching words for the Pharisees and scribes; calling them mausoleums’ all painted white on the outside but nothing but dead men’s bones on the inside he called them this for putting burdens on their people and the hashes of the burdens were the ever increasing laws and twisting of the laws like the need to exchange their money for temple money to buy offerings at inflated prices at the end of a long pilgrimage to make an atoning sacrifice. That’s why Jesus turn the tables over and drove them from the temple clamming they had turned his father’s house into a den of thieves. he at one time called them a brood of vipers and asked them how did they ever expect to escape damnation the very same ones that defined the law and elaborated on how they were to be carried out. Maybe the president confused the Mosaic Law for the law of God and that as a follower of the Christian faith, Jesus is the final authority.
I do believe that he was telling the truth that he does not have time to read and study the bible because it sure shows to be true. The irony of that shameful speech when he was still just a senator ….Oh what was the line “fokes haven’t been reading their Bible”
